CH 6 Lab Kevin Patterson

My first web experience was in 1997 while I was in the Army living in military barracks. My friend Chris was using a dial-up version of AOL ( America Online) to meet new people and to pep up the sometimes boring military life in Fort Campbell, KY. Somehow, Chris invited me to his room to help him with a chat he was having with a young lady he had met in Wisconsin. He had broken his hand on a parachuting mission and could not type.  To sum things up, Chris ended up on the phone and I ended up in his room surfing the web until 3 am. I immediately found a new hobby and instantly became the beginning of my desires to work with computers. The access then was via dial-up and there were many so called times of lagging and unavailable network access. It was very hard to download files then and the visual affects were no where near today’s quality. I was able to teach myself techniques to get around the web. Today, I still use the web similar to then but my web use is in all apsects, work and private purposes. Most of the systems I use at work are now web-based and I use the web to take advantage completing tasks that were once physical (like mailing bills, making copies, reading books).
