CIT Assignment 5 Kevin Patterson
August 5, 2007CH 6 Lab Kevin Patterson
July 16, 2007My first web experience was in 1997 while I was in the Army living in military barracks. My friend Chris was using a dial-up version of AOL ( America Online) to meet new people and to pep up the sometimes boring military life in Fort Campbell, KY. Somehow, Chris invited me to his room to help him with a chat he was having with a young lady he had met in Wisconsin. He had broken his hand on a parachuting mission and could not type. To sum things up, Chris ended up on the phone and I ended up in his room surfing the web until 3 am. I immediately found a new hobby and instantly became the beginning of my desires to work with computers. The access then was via dial-up and there were many so called times of lagging and unavailable network access. It was very hard to download files then and the visual affects were no where near today’s quality. I was able to teach myself techniques to get around the web. Today, I still use the web similar to then but my web use is in all apsects, work and private purposes. Most of the systems I use at work are now web-based and I use the web to take advantage completing tasks that were once physical (like mailing bills, making copies, reading books).

HTML5, XHTML2, and the Future of the Web
In: Articles
Published on April 10, 2007
Conclusion
While XHTML2 is a semantic improvement over XHTML 1.0, it does not seem likely that it will matter for web developers for a long time, especially when one considers that Internet Explorer still doesn’t offer XHTML 1.0 support. It will take many years for a new version that might support XHTML2—and we have been given no indication that the next one will.
On the other hand, many parts of HTML5 are already creeping into browsers, and, if Microsoft takes an active part in the development of HTML5 in the future, it looks likely that many features that are already very polished will be supported cross-browser in a much shorter timeframe. The fact that HTML5 contains several areas that are already ready for implementation while still being developed in other areas makes it a technology that is easy to partially adapt until browser support is fully evolved for the features you wish to use.
HTML5 will be the future of the web, so my advice would be to pay close attention to it.
CH2 Part 2 Computer Hardware Perspective Kevin Patterson
July 1, 2007In the future I picture computer hardware similar to what we see in the movies and on TV. I think harware will continue to take shapes and forms similar to humans and animals. We have already seen the reduction in size of computers. Now we are into a more detailed pase of compter size and shape manipulation/creation. In the Modding Assignment I found many new amazing harware modifications to get a glimpse at where we are headed. I think the greatest challenges hardware enthusiasts will face finding a way to create complex hardware in less man hours and in bulk or at request. I expect at some point we will be able to have our favorite hardware design but it won’t be like going to a myspace site and choosing your favorite page design.

Modding ( Computer Modification) is a valuable resource to me with three computers in my home. I have a fairly large home at more than 4,000 square feet and a lot of decorative furniture. My ideal moddng product would have to be a system that fits in nicely with current interior designs and possibly add a little more pop to my home. I luckily stumbled across a few extraordinary modding pages that gave me some great ideas. I would like to create a system that can be placed inside the wall of the house, similar to a fish tank. This system would have a clear lexan type case with an attractive neon lighting design that brings the room to life in low lighting. Lighting from the system would be adequate to accomplish work. The system would also have a combined keyboard and mouse pad, similar to notebooks. Additionally, the combined keyboard and mouse will be mechanically controlled and stored in wall unit. The full system to include monitor, combined keyboard, and decoractive hardware would be accessible at the press of a button. The monitor would be a simple large flat screen with light along the border. Below are linksand pics to some current mods that I took ideas from.

Ch 1 Creative Thinking Kevin Patterson
June 29, 2007Interesting Chapters
- Chapter 1 Computer, Internet, Web and Email Basics ( gives grounding for the course)
- Chapter 2 Computer hardware ( always want the best and the good gadgets)
- Chapter 9 Information Systems Analysis and Design ( my favorite line of work is Info systems)
- Chapter 8 Computer Industry: History, Careers, and Ethics ( the many reasons I love computer technology)
- Chapter 5 Internet and Lan Technolgy (such a great way to communicate and learn)
The hard to concentrate/ trouble Chapters
- Chapter 11 Compter Programming (very hard for me to grasp in past)
- Chapter 3 Compuetr Software ( the product of programming to me)
- Chapter 4 File management, Virus protection, and Backup ( old rules and must do but never do type things)
- Chapter 6 Web pages, web sites, E-Commerce ( broad area, depends on the instructor and the material)
I really love working with computers. I spend a large part of my day around them. Currently, I work for the Department of Defense as a Information Systems Specialist. I’m not advanced but I do know some things about computer concepts. I would like to learn more and perhaps one day become a very knowledge Computer Information Technician. I try to stay away from the scientist side of CIT. I get brain blowouts just trying to keep up.
There are not many irrellevant chapters in computer concepts. It’s just a matter of extracting the knowledge that one needs, I think. I really have problems with programming but I know that I really need to learn programming a little bit. There are many new programs to do the programming for you on the private sector side but in DoD, you have to know the code yourself. However, there are few people who get to write the code ( the special people). I want to be special one day too.
